After a lengthy permitting process with the state of Maryland, construction of the first phase of improvements to the Ruggles Golf Course has commenced. The first phase of the work focuses on complete reconstruction of all tee complexes into a new five marker system. This new flexibility will allow the course to be enjoyed by a much wider range of golfer and lose the nickname of "Struggles ". Ample length will still remain for those demanding a stout round from 7200 yards. Total Turf Services of Philadelphia will implement the work which also includes tree clearing, drainage installation, and golf car path rerouting.
Schlegel Golf Course Design has also been given the go-ahead to prepare construction drawings for the second phase of improvements to the course. Dramatic changes will be implemented with this new portion of work as state-of-the-art practice facilities will be created. Almost an acre of grass tee will be constructed with an artificial surface area added for off season and inclement weather. Realistic targets will be added in the practice fairway. Additionally, a large short game practice area will be constructed containing two large greens, sand bunkers, and a large variety of fairway chipping and pitching areas. To accommodate these new features, two holes will be shifted with new greens constructed.
